Why Did the One Become Many?
Perhaps enlightenment is not about leaving the world behind, but learning how to belong to it.
I have listened to many spiritual teachings speak of liberation, enlightenment, heaven, or transcendence.
Yet here I am still, watching the seasons turn.
Watching life grow, flourish, decay, and return again in a perfect cycle of reciprocity.
And I find myself wondering:
What have we come here for?
Just to escape?
What if we came here because we wanted to be here?
The One Becoming Many
Many ancient traditions speak of a time when the One became many. God, Spirit, Source, the Great Mystery—whatever name we give it—somehow expressed itself as countless beings, forms, and experiences.
For this to happen, a kind of forgetting was necessary.
The ocean had to forget itself long enough to become a wave.
The One had to forget itself long enough to become you and me.
This forgetting is what many traditions call illusion - e.g. Maya in Sanskrit
Illusion it is not the mistake.
Perhaps it is a necessary part of the game.
A sacred amnesia that allows life to unfold.
The Cycle of Life and Death
Is there a life after death?
A promised reunion with God?
A dwelling in heaven?
A suffering in hell?
Or are we punished into reincarnation until all karmic lessons are learned?
I believe in reincarnation - not because we have failed, but because life itself is unfinished.
There is more to learn.
More to love.
More to become.
Not only for ourselves, but for the Earth herself.
Children of the Earth
What if we are not alien visitors here?
What if we are children of the Earth - not only in body, but in soul as well?
What if humanity is part of the Earth's own evolution, a way through which she becomes conscious of herself?
In this view, spiritual growth cannot be a movement away from the world but deeper into relationship with it.
The body is not an obstacle.
The Earth is not a lower realm.
Matter is not separate from Spirit.
Everything belongs.
The Place of Darkness
Even what we call darkness belongs - even what some call the devil.
If everything comes from the One, then nothing can truly exist outside of it.
The shadow is not separate from the light.
It is part of the mystery through which consciousness learns, matures, and awakens.
Not an enemy of creation.
A participant in it.
Remembering Our Place
Perhaps the task of our time is not to transcend the Earth, but to remember our place within her.
To remember that we belong.
To remember that spirit and matter, heaven and Earth, masculine and feminine were never meant to be enemies.
The journey is not from Earth to Heaven.
The journey is from separation to relationship.
From forgetting to remembering.
From domination to participation.
Fully Here
And perhaps, in the end, enlightenment is not about leaving the world behind.
Perhaps it is learning to fully inhabit it.
To walk gently upon the Earth and know:
I am a child of the stars.
I am a child of the Earth.
Both are true.
Perhaps that is why the One became many in the first place.
Not to escape life.
But to experience it.
