What is a plant Dieta?

A Plant Dieta is far more than its Spanish translation of “diet.”

It is a sacred practice of deep listening, healing, and transformation through relationship with a plant teacher. A way of stripping life down to what is essential, so you can meet yourself, life, and your deeper truth without distraction.

Through silence, simplicity, immersion in nature and direct connection with a plant, the Dieta becomes a pathway of remembering — a return to relationship with yourself, with nature, and with the mystery of life itself.

It is a practice.
A relationship.
A healing path.
And for some, the beginning of the path of the healer.

The Nordic Dieta with Mighty Tree is one of the most transformative experiences I have ever had...

Surrounded by deep, quiet forest, I found peace and clarity, an inward listening and connection to myself and everything around me, which is an embodied experience I carry with me and take forward.

Birch was such a teacher in letting go of old patterns and ideas that no longer serve me. I feel that I have gained tools and insights from my Dieta with Birk that have changed my view of how to be in the world”

  • A Plant Dieta is an ancient practice, most widely known through the Amazonian curanderismo traditions.

Traditionally, a Dieta involves spending dedicated time in nature while working closely with a specific plant through intentional restrictions, silence, prayer, ritual, and deep listening.

Similar practices are found in many indigenous traditions around the world - even in our part of it (e.g. the nordic Udesindning - the sitting out)

The purpose is not to escape society - it is to return with clarity.

By stepping away from the constant stimulation of everyday life, the space opens for deeper layers of yourself to become visible. Your system begins to slow down. Perception changes. The noise softens, and something more essential can emerge.

In this way, a Dieta shares qualities with practices such as Vipassana, Vision Quests or monastic retreats — structured ways of creating the conditions for insight and transformation.

Our Nordic Plant Dietas are rooted in the deep respect for the original traditions we have studied, while being woven into a Northern European context through plant spirit herbalism, nature immersion, ceremony, and ancestral connection.

A Dieta is not a quick fix or a peak experience.

It is a process of integration, embodiment, and relationship that continues long after the days in the forest have ended.

  • Traditionally, practices like a Plant Dieta has been part of the training and initiation of healers, shamans, curanderos, seers, druids, herbalists, and wisdom keepers.

Not through intellectual learning alone, but through direct relationship with nature and lived experience.

The path of the Dieta teaches:

    • how to listen deeply

    • how to hold presence

    • how to meet yourself honestly

    • how to work with energy, emotion, and relationship

    • and over time, how to become a grounded presence for others

You do not need to become a healer in a professional or traditional sense to walk this path.

What you receive through a Dieta naturally begins to ripple into your life:
into your relationships, your work, your parenting, your creativity, your leadership, and your way of meeting the world.

In many traditions there is a saying that, over time, the practitioner begins to “become medicine.”

This does not mean becoming special or spiritually superior.
    It means:

    • becoming more authentic

    • more grounded

    • more compassionate

    • more aligned with truth

    • and more able to bring healing qualities into everyday life

The healing does not stay in the forest.
It becomes part of how you live.

  • At its heart, a Plant Dieta is a relationship.

A relationship between human and plant.
    Between spirit and nature
Between the seen and unseen worlds.

Over time, the plant often shifts from being something you “use” into something you are in dialogue with. A living intelligence. A teacher. A mirror.

The Dieta creates the conditions for deep listening, where the relationship can unfold slowly and naturally.

From this, a sense of kinship begins to emerge:
a felt experience that nature is not separate from us, but that we belong within it.

Reciprocity becomes central - the sacred balance of giving and receiving.

The word Dieta does not only describe the days spent in the forest. It also refers to the relationship that continues afterwards.

For many, this becomes one of the deepest relationships of their lives:
    with the plants,
    with the earth,
    and ultimately, with themselves.

  • A Plant Dieta can offer a profound doorway into personal healing.

As external distractions fall away, the deeper movements beneath everyday life become easier to feel. Emotions, patterns, fears, grief, memories, and old survival strategies can begin to surface gently into awareness.

Not to overwhelm you - but to be seen, understood, and transformed - with the help of nature and our support

Many people experience that a Dieta brings healing to:

    • the relationship with themselves

    • the nervous system

    • emotional patterns

    • ancestral and family dynamics

    • the relationship to nature

    • and the experience of belonging in life

Over time, this can grow into:

    • a deeper sense of inner peace

    • greater clarity and authenticity

    • emotional resilience

    • groundedness and trust

    • and a feeling of being more fully at home in yourself and in the world

This path asks for honesty, commitment, and a willingness to meet yourself deeply.

    It is not always easy.
But for those who feel the call, it can become one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of life.

Why people come to a Dieta

People feel called to a Plant Dieta for many different reasons.
Often, it begins with a longing:

  • to slow down and remove the noise

  • to reconnect with what feels true and essential

  • to heal, grow, and deepen their relationship with life

  • to feel more grounded, connected, and alive

  • to return to themselves and a more natural way of being

For many, a Dieta becomes a way of stripping life back to what truly matters - creating space for clarity, healing, deep listening, and reconnection with nature.

It is an invitation to step into genuine relationship with the plants, the earth, and yourself.

What people receive

Each Dieta is different, but over time, people often experience:

  • personal healing

  • an inner state of being with more peace and calm

  • clarity and direction in life

  • a deeper connection with nature

  • self-discovery and inner truth

  • a sense of freedom

  • inspiration and renewed energy

  • the softening or transformation of trauma and limiting patterns

  • a feeling of coming home

And with that, a movement:

  • Stepping in - meeting yourself more honestly & deeper

  • Stepping out - daring to shine and show yourself more fully to the world

  • Stepping up - taking responsibility for your life and direction

A Dieta always has something new for you - while it brings you closer to what has always been there.

  • Return to the Forest, Return to Yourself

Many people come to a Dieta because something in life no longer feels fully aligned.

The noise has become too loud.
    The pace too fast.
The connection to themselves, nature, or meaning has faded.

For some, the call comes during times of transition, loss, awakening, burnout, or deep questioning. For others, it comes from a quiet knowing that there is more to life than the speed and disconnection of modern living.

Beneath the responsibilities and constant stimulation, there is often a longing:

    • to breathe more deeply

    • to hear oneself clearly again

    • to feel connected, grounded, and truly alive.

This is what the forest offers.

Our Nordic Master Plant Dietas are designed to strip life back to what is essential, creating the conditions for deep healing, clarity, and reconnection.

Deep in the forests of Scandinavia, we weave traditional Plant Dieta practices together with Northern shamanic traditions, ancestral therapy, and somatic safety.

Everything supports deep listening and direct connection with nature:

    • silence and solitude

    • simple living close to the earth

    • relationship with a plant teacher

    • organic Dieta food cooked over fire

    • acoustic music and sacred songs

    • daily guidance and therapeutic support

    • strong group holding throughout the process

Nothing is added for distraction or escape.

Instead, the Dieta invites you into direct relationship with life itself — where nature becomes the teacher, the plant spirit becomes the guide, and deeper truths can begin to emerge.

    Many experience:

    • greater inner peace and clarity

    • healing of old emotional patterns

    • renewed direction and vitality

    • deeper connection to themselves and nature

    • and a profound feeling of coming home

This path is for those ready to enter into genuine relationship with nature and the plant spirits — to learn their language, receive their teachings, and carry their medicine into life in grounded and meaningful ways.

A Dieta invites you to strip away the unnecessary and reconnect with your essence.

An ancient yet deeply immediate path of communion between human and plant — experienced directly, simply, and profoundly.

Moments From The Forest Sanctuary

"The greatest challenge in connecting with plants is to get out of our own way - so that we can hear and receive their teachings".

The Full Dieta Journey

The Nordic Master Plant Dieta is an immersive journey held in two connected phases:

  1. an 8–15 day immersion in the forest (the Dieta itself)

  2. a 3-month supoort for preparation, integration, and embodiment

Together, they form one continuous process of relationship, transformation, and grounding.

15 Days in the Forest - The Core

The immersion takes place in the Swedish wilderness, where you create your own simple camp with tent or hammock. This becomes your home in nature where life is stripped back to what is essential.

Together we slow down, reduce stimulation, and clear away the noise of civilization to bring the attention inward.

During the 15 days you will experience:

  • intimate group setting (max. 8 participants)

  • silence and solitude

  • meditation, and reduced stimulation

  • simple diet and sexual abstinence

  • plant treatments, rituals and ceremonies

  • classes

    • how to navigate, connect, and work with your plant Dieta

    • sing Icaros (medicine songs)

    • smudging and shamanic tools

  • individual guidance and group support (somatic, energetic, therapeutic)

  • accommodation in your own place in the forest (tent/hammock)

Life in the forest is simple: showers in the forest lake, food cooked over fire - a life in direct contact with nature.

3-Month Process - Preparation, Integration & Embodiment

While the forest immersion is the heart of the Dieta, a good preparation helps a good outcome - while the transformation unfolds after.

The Dieta is an invitation into a deep relationship — with plants, with yourself, and with the earth.

We honor this process by giving it time, structure, and support, based on years of experience holding Plant Dietas and PlantQuest journeys.

The 3-month process supports you through:

  • initial private consultation

  • individual preparation and integration sessions (online or in-person)

  • group preparation and integration circles (online)

  • practices at home

  • building initial connection with the plant

  • online Dieta preparation course with guided practices

  • nature-based therapeutic support before, during, and after

  • ongoing individual and group guidance

This ensures that what is experienced in the forest can be lived, embodied, and integrated into daily life, relationships, and work.

Birch Dieta experiences

Brian & Nicole had a Birch Dieta in the Swedish forest with us in 2022. Here you can hear about their experiences in Danish:

The Roots of the Plant Dieta Practice

The Plant Dieta is a traditional practice of deep relationship with plant spirits, originating from the Amazonian traditions of Curanderismo (plant medicine and healing).

At its core, it is based on a simple understanding:
nature is intelligent, alive, and self-healing — and so are we.

Plants are seen as conscious beings with their own wisdom and medicine. When we enter a Dieta, we enter into direct relationship with a plant teacher, allowing its intelligence to influence and awaken our own inner clarity, balance, and healing capacity.

Over time, this relationship does not remain a practice — it becomes a living connection that continues to support presence, awareness, and alignment in daily life.

  • A Plant Dieta is a process of entering into deep relationship with a specific plant spirit through simplicity, silence, and focused inner work.

    It is:

    • a practice of direct connection

    • a process of inner transformation

    • and a living relationship with a plant

Through this, the plant is not seen as something external, but as a teacher, friend and partner that helps awaken what is already within us.

  • After a Dieta, the connection to the plant does not end — it continues as a subtle, ongoing relationship.

    This can support:

    • your presence and awareness

    • your decision-making

    • your emotional clarity

    • your work and creativity

    • your relationships with others

In traditional understanding, it is this living connection that becomes the foundation of healing work. The plant spirit is not only experienced during retreat, but can be carried into life and ceremony as an ongoing relationship.

  • The Dieta path is ideal for those called to:

    • develop long-term relationships with plant spirits

    • receive direct teachings from master plants

    • enter traditional plant medicine apprenticeship

    • explore deep personal transformation and initiation

    • bridge shamanic wisdom with modern life

    • explore a possible path toward healing or ceremonial work

  • A Plant Dieta is not a training to become a facilitator or ceremony leader.

While it can become part of a longer path of apprenticeship, it is not a shortcut into working with others.

At its core, this work is about:

    • your relationship with yourself

    • your relationship with nature

    • your relationship with life

If you feel called toward facilitation or deeper training, this can be explored in conversation as part of a longer, guided apprenticeship path.

  • The term “Dieta” is used in different ways. Here is a simple clarification:

    Dietary Restrictions

In many traditions, “diet” refers to temporary restrictions such as no salt, sugar, or sexual activity. These are used to increase sensitivity and focus during ceremony or plant work.

    Ayahuasca Dieta

In some Amazonian traditions, dietary restrictions are used in preparation for plant medicine treatments, often including.

Here, the focus is primarily on preparing the body and supporting sensitivity to specific medicines.

Plant Dieta (This Path - Sama in Shipibo Tradition)

This is a complete practice of direct relationship with a plant spirit, rooted in Shipibo-Konibo tradition and other Amazonian lineages.

Here, dietary rules are not the essence of the practice — they are supportive conditions that help create clarity, safety, and deep inner listening during the process.

A Plant Dieta does not require Ayahuasca. While it is sometimes practiced alongside it in the Amazon, the core of the work is the relationship with the plant itself.

In traditional contexts, it is this relationship that the healer carries and works with — including in ceremonial settings.

Your Guides on the path

Stephan and Eva Maria - partners in life, love, and work.

We met under the canopy of our teacher tree Noya Rao in the Peruvian jungle, and have since devoted our lives to guiding people back into a sense of belonging - with the Earth, with nature, and with themselves. Plant Dietas are at the heart of our work and the path we share with the world.

With backgrounds in design and engineering, we both left conventional paths to follow a more nature-based and initiatory way of living and learning. This journey led us into the Amazon, where we lived and studied with Don Rono Lopez and the Shipibo-Konibo tradition of Curanderismo (plant medicine practice). There, we met each other, the plants, and the path that continues to shape our lives today.

We now live in Denmark in close rhythm with the seasons, in or tiny house surrounded by garden and forest.

As guides, we bring together complementary skills developed over years of shared practice and individual study — weaving curanderismo, therapy, sound healing, craftsmanship, practical bushcraft, and ancestral medicine work.

We spend extended periods each year in nature, practicing both traditional and “soft” Dietas in the Amazon and Nordic forests, and living in a way that keeps us close to the essence of this work.

Testimonials

  • "The combination of deeply individualized support, the healing power of being immersed in nature throughout the entire stay, and the energy and dedication within the group created a profound and transformative journey that is still unfolding within me. The deep sense of connection in the sanctuary of the forest was held beautifully by the format that Eva and Stephan has created - giving a sense of support, both firmly and gently, from both humans and nature."

    Maila

  • "...Words cannot describe what it has done to me. I don’t even want to try but one thing I can say is that I stand naked now and closer to my true essence. It’s all about integration now. It takes time and I’m also “just” a human trying to do the best I can. But I’m on my way cleaning out of attachments and extracting hardness from strength. I stand stronger now with more authority towards myself. But it’s now easy but who said it should be easy. I thank you for your words and I thank you both for the devine work you do. See you next year "

    Nicole

  • “My expectations were high, and they were all met and exceeded. Finding peace, slowing down, and being in nature. Fasting, going even deeper, and feeling the vibrations from the plants and trees. Devoting myself to silence, nature, and plant medicine in many forms. Learning about plant medicine, mapacho, Aqua de florida, the birch tree, and Icaros tied it all together. I highly recommend Mightytree to those who want to dive deep, learn, and be inspired. Six months later, I am still integrating and maintaining my connection with the birch tree. Aho.”

    Brian

  • "...Going through such a program has given me a new perspective and an inner peace that I deeply appreciate. I feel a special connection to that plant spirit, and it seems like there is a unique form of communication between us; as if it speaks to me through my body and senses. In the near future, I look forward to meeting a new plant spirit. All of this has only been possible thanks to the wonderful people who are skilled at what they do and who have created a space where this is possible. I would like to say thank you to them”

    Tommy

  • “The Birch Wisdom Quest was a great adventure (deep, tough and rewarding) with two dedicated and authentic facilitators who together — with spirit in their hands — created a space where two very special and meaningful weeks of my life unfolded.”

    Hannibal

  • "...The forest has been the opening scene for a magical transformation that is still ongoing. Every time, I have left a piece of myself among the trees and taken a drop of their sap or a bite of their bark with me. Thus, my relationship with nature has become stronger and, with it, my connection to my true nature or, in other words, my true self. Eva-Maria and Stephan, you have held the space, to allow the energies at play to connect and weave a fuller reality, with heart-warming synergy and mastery. Of all the skills and traits that you make available during the dietas, two standout unmatched: love and intention. I’m inspired, grateful, and love-filled."

    Federico

Listen in on a conversation about Nordic Dietas

“What is a dieta?” and “Why would someone engage in this practice?”. Join us in our tiny house for a conversation about Nordic Dietas, March 2025.

"Plants are silent teachers, and to communicate with them we need to slow down, quiet the mind and give space for another language to emerge. The intuitive and almost vegetative language that speaks from our hearts, our bodies and our inner being".

Other plant-connections

Not everyone is called to a full Plant Dieta. We also offer gentler and more accessible ways of entering into relationship with plant spirits and nature.

PlantQuest

Our 8-day PlantQuest is a lighter version of the Dieta journey, blending the essence of Amazonian Plant Dieta with Nordic traditions of “sitting out” (udesidning).

While less restrictive than a full Dieta, it still offers a profound opportunity for healing, clarity, direction, and deep connection with nature and yourself.

In it’s core the PlantQuest is a transition, where your find your way to the plant, leave the old behind and welcome the new. The journey is mostly shaped by the question you bring into it - and what nature reflects back.

Plant Kinship Journey

The Plant Kinship Journey is similar to a soft Dieta: a gentler, more integrated way of building relationship with a plant spirit while remaining connected to everyday life.

Through guided practices, rituals, and plant connection, you learn to deepen your listening and develop an ongoing relationship with the wisdom of the plants in a grounded and embodied way.

This happens in normal day-to-day life in a container of online or in-person sessions and an online course with shamanic tools and practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Different plants support different processes and qualities. Some bring grounding, clarity, softness, courage, protection, or transformation.

Essentially the choice is between you and the plant - it is your sacred relationship. However, We help guide the choice based on where you are in life, your intentions, and what feels aligned for your path.

  • Before the Dieta, you receive access to our online Dieta Preparation Course.

This course includes foundational teachings, practices, guidance, and protocols to help you prepare physically, emotionally, practically, and spiritually for the journey ahead.

  • The Dieta is held within a larger guided container — because the preparation and integration are an essential part of the work.

    This includes:

    • individual preparation session(s)

    • Online Preparation Course including guided practices

    • group preparation circle

    • support with practical and emotional preparation

    • integration guidance after the Dieta

    • individual integration session

    • group integration circle

    • ongoing community support and check-ins

Our intention is to support not only the experience in the forest, but also how the insights and healing are embodied in your daily life afterward.

  • The roots of our work come from the Amazonian Plant Dieta traditions, especially the Shipibo-Konibo lineage of Peru.

In our Nordic Dietas, we respectfully weave these teachings with Scandinavian nature traditions, somatic therapy, and the Nordic landscape. Instead of the jungle, we work in deep northern forests — in close relationship with Nordic masterplants, silence, simplicity, and the rhythms of this land.

  • An “Ayahuasca diet” usually refers to temporary dietary restrictions used around ceremonies or retreats.

A Plant Dieta is something much deeper: a long-term relationship and practice with a specific plant spirit. The dietary restrictions simply help create the sensitivity and clarity needed for that connection.

A Plant Dieta does not require Ayahuasca.

  • A masterplant is a plant that teaches, heals, and guides through direct relationship.

In many traditions, masterplants are understood as conscious beings with their own wisdom, medicine, and spirit. Through Dieta, we learn to listen and receive their teachings more deeply.

  • We work with simple, nature-based shamanic tools that support connection, grounding, cleansing, and relationship with the plants and the forest.

    This can include:

    • smudging practices

    • natural rattles and drums

    • handmade ceremonial tools

    • plant baths and treatments

    • altar work and prayer practices

    • sound, song, and silence

Everything is introduced gently and practically throughout the process. Both in the forest and in the online Preparation Course.

  • Yes. Eva Maria will share and teach traditional-inspired medicine songs, including icaros written in the Shipibo language specifically for the group and the plants we are working with.

At the same time, there is no expectation that you only sing these songs. If you feel deeply connected to mantras, prayers, devotional songs, or your own authentic expression, you are warmly encouraged to bring that too. At the heart of it, all sincere song is prayer.

  • We simply LOVE that our Nordic Dietas as so back-to-basics. It is a gift to be so emerged in nature. However, that means that Some basic outdoor equipment is needed, such as appropriate clothing, sleeping gear, and shelter.

We provide guidance beforehand and can support you in understanding what is needed. Simplicity is part of the practice — expensive gear is not necessary.

  • No. A Plant Dieta is not a quick certification or facilitator course.

It is a profound personal and spiritual practice rooted in relationship, healing, and transformation. While it can become part of a healer’s path, the focus is first and foremost your own connection with life, nature, and the plants.

  • For those genuinely called to the healer’s or facilitator’s path, Dieta can become an important foundation.

This path requires time, maturity, integrity, practice, and ongoing guidance. If this calls to you, we invite you to reach out for a conversation about apprenticeship and long-term training.

  • The practice of Plant Dieta comes primarily from Amazonian curanderismo traditions, where Dieta forms the foundation for working with plant medicine and healing.

Our work is especially inspired by the Shipibo-Konibo lineage of Peru - with continously study and permission from Don Rono Lopez, while also integrating Nordic nature traditions and modern therapeutic understanding.

  • A traditional Dieta is usually more intensive and restrictive, often involving extended solitude, stronger fasting protocols, and deeper immersion.

A soft Dieta brings the same essence of plant relationship and simplicity into everyday life in a gentler and more accessible way.

  • Yes. We offer soft Dietas through our Kinship Journeys and other guided processes.

These journeys support people in developing meaningful relationships with plants while remaining connected to daily life, work, and family.

  • No. Working with a Dieta pipe (pibe) is completely optional.

If it calls you, Stephan may carve an individual pibe for your Dieta during the forest immersion, using wood from your Dieta tree. For some, this becomes a meaningful ceremonial tool and relationship.

However, this is not required. Our primary cleansing and smudging practices are centered around Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), using smudge sticks and smudge bowls.

And if some of these words feel unfamiliar or overwhelming — don’t worry. We will guide and teach everything step by step.

  • The Nordic forests hold a very different energy than the Amazon jungle.

Here, the medicine often comes through silence, spaciousness, simplicity, and deep stillness. The slower rhythms of the North create a unique opportunity for grounding, listening, and reconnecting with nature in a way that feels close to home for many Europeans.
